On 11.01.2020 a pilot training for Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) took place in Cyprus .

On 11th of January 2020, the Pilot Study of the ACT Now Project (A training program development for healthcare professionals to use the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to facilitate patient adjustment to the challenges of living with a visible difference) was conducted in Cyprus. The event was supported and advertised via social media and email contacts by MediCleft, the Cyprus Center for Cleft and Other Craniofacial Deformities. Twenty healthcare professionals from various fields (i.e. dieticians, occupational therapists, orthodontists, psychiatric nurses, speech therapists) participated, of which 11 were female and 9 males. The participants completed the one-day training, as developed by the ACT Now Project. Participants also completed a pre- and post-training questionnaire assessing the acquired knowledge and investigating possible improvements. Based on participants’ responses and the necessary statistical analyses, the training had a positive effect, with participants demonstrating awareness of how the principles of ACT facilitate patients’ adjustment. Future trainings will be implemented when the final version of the training material is completed after the overall feedback from the participating countries.
